Great Blogs

October 22, 2006 by Glenn R. Cochran

There are a number of blogs which discuss interaction design, visual design, user research, and all things user experience. Here is a list of those blogs which I found most useful:

Luke Wroblewski - Functioning Form
Rashmi Sinha - rashmisinha.com
Dave Shae - mezzoblue.com
Jessie James Garrett - Hidden Agenda
Jared Spool - UIE Brain Sparks

I'll add more to this list later. For now, these are the primary one's I'm reading on a regular basis.

Luke Wroblewski's Blog: Functioning Form

If you have not had a chance to visit Luke Wroblewski's blog about interface design you should stop what you are doing right now and head over to Functioning Form. You'll literally spend hours reading this blog without stopping!

Who Is LukeW?

Luke Wroblewski, or "LukeW" for short, is a product designer, strategist, and author. Luke has worked for companies such as eBay, and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Currently Luke is the Principal Designer of Yahoo! Inc.'s Social Media Group. Luke is a leading expert on all things design and reguarly posts tasty nuggets of information for others to consume.

Tasty Nuggets

Luke's blog always contains up-to-the-minute information that is relevant and timely to any person doing design-related work. Some of my favorite posts from Luke are:

Interaction Design Books
UI11: Seminar & Presentation
The Shifting Role of Design
Interface Design Skill-set Diagram

LukeW at UI11 Conference

I personally attended Luke's presentation on Strategy with Design and his seminar on Communicating Successfully with Visual Design. Both sessions were extremely worth while and packed full of information.

I especially liked that Luke pointed out that as markets mature more quickly these days and the world becomes more complex, the role of the designer continues to be highly relevant in business. Understanding your role as a designer and how you can impact the business in positive ways is key to your success. This just makes so much sense.

Notes from Luke's seminar at UI11 were compiled by Jesper Rønn-Jensen and can be found on Jesper's blog justaddwater.dk in his recent post entitled UI Conf: Luke Wroblewski on Visual Design in the Development Process. Thanks Jesper!

Japanese Weenie Art

October 19, 2006 by Glenn R. Cochran

While I realize that carving up and assembling pieces of hotdog meat into shapes that resemble various animals might not have a whole lot to do with user experience engineering but I just had to share anyway. I ran across this site entirely in Japanese that showcases how to carve up hotdogs in many cute ways. Check it out when you have a moment.

I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it too. Have fun!
